Bull Dog: Overview of A Bull Dog

A bull dog is a small dog that has a somewhat ugly yet positively lovable appearance. The bull dog has a short stocky appearance with short legs and a perpetual frown on its face. It is originally from England and was brought to the United States where the standard of the breed was changed.

These dogs are loyal to their families and are very good natured. They get along well with other animals and children, too. They are not as intelligent as you might want them to be or they just don not want to exert any effort at all. They can be trained but you need to know the proper way to catch their attention especially for the older dogs.

Features of a Bull Dog

Bull dogs are generally smaller in the United States of America compared to the United Kingdom from where they originated. The Bull Dog is a very quite natured dog compared to some other dog breeds that is friendly and loving. They love children and other animals and are mostly good tempered and docile. The Bull Dog is usually a quite animal that seldom barks and this makes them suitable for living in apartments where they cannot disturb their neighbors.

Some Bull Dogs drool while others do not. This characteristic is not apparent while they are still puppies and there is no way to know what they will turn out to be when they grow up. They have generally large heads compared to their bodies.

Health of a Bull Dog

The Bull Dog is prone to have breathing problems. This is probably because of its short muzzle and lower jaw. They might also have what is called cherry eye and allergies to certain things. Some females give birth through caesarean section because of the puppies’ larger heads compared to ordinary puppies although other females can give birth normally. Bull Dog puppies are pretty much the same size as other puppies except for their bi heads.

A Bull Dog may require daily cleaning of the face folds to avoid infections and they needs to have their teeth checked and brushed regularly. They have a tendency to grow fat so they need regular walks and other forms of exercise to curb their weight. A Bull Dog is easily affected by the heat so always bring water for them and try to exercise them in shady areas.

These dogs are highly prized for their stocky appearance and pug faces. Most show dogs have broad heads and pug faces. They also have a remarkable gait that makes them look so like little soldiers waddling while they are walking. A Bull Dog is an affectionate dog breed that easily wins people’s hearts with its wrinkly face and gentle demeanor.
